Somm's Table: Port & Pastries
For the sweet tooth in us all, our final Somm's Table of the year will focus on the world of Port wines. British merchant families of Cockburn (who were instrumental in rescuing the Touriga Nacional grape from extinction) and Sandeman (a recognized trademark and leader in production) will be used to demonstrate the differences within this vast style of winemaking: Port.

Barolo, often called "the king of wines and the wine of kings", is a high-quality, long-lived Italian red wine made from 100% Nebbiolo grapes in the Piedmont region, known for its complex flavors and long-aging potential. After nearly 20 years spent sorting, clarifying, and standardizing within a multitude of interests, a Cru-like classification system in Barolo DOCG (Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita) was created in 2010. Time needed to implement and make the wines means these long-aging wines are starting to reach their peaks now, so let's sip a few together and talk about their merits.

SOMM’S TABLE: Iconic España
Center stage on this Somm's Table are stars of Spain: Icons of Iberia, Greats of Galicia, and Rockstars of Rioja! Age-worthy Albariño from one of the original 14 growers who elevated the potential of Rías Baixas. Samsó (aka Carignan) is shared with us from this Grand Cru parcel from Costers del Priorat, deep in the Catalan countryside—a sample of the 60-year-old vine Garnacha from a village in the southeast of the province of Ávila. Conde de Hervías is a powerful Tempranillo and Graciano only produced in the best vintages and minimal quantities from pre-Phyloxera vines on the Ebro River bank. And, of course, each wine is tastefully paired with a small bite (canapé) prepared by our Executive Chef Vincent Celeste.
